Machine Retrofit and Automation Modernisation

Replacing a mechanically sound machine only because its control system is outdated is often an unnecessary investment. With a retrofit we move the machine's PLC, operator panel and drives to current systems with available spare parts, keeping the machine in production for many more years.

Typical retrofit work

  • Migration from discontinued PLCs to current ones (e.g. S7-300 → S7-1500)
  • Replacing old operator panels with current HMIs
  • Replacing old drives with new-generation drives
  • Converting old relay-logic cabinets to PLC control
  • Adding new functions, sensors or safety equipment to the machine

Retrofit or repair?

Not every old system needs a retrofit. Where spare parts are still available, repair and spare modules are often enough. When faults become frequent, parts get hard to find or new features are needed, a retrofit makes more sense. After the survey we present both options with their costs.

How we work

  1. 01

    Survey and current state

We review the machine, existing program and electrical drawings.

  2. 02

    Proposal

We plan hardware selection, scope and downtime.

  3. 03

    Preparation

We prepare the program and cabinet as much as possible before the shutdown.

  4. 04

    Installation and commissioning

We carry out the changeover during a planned shutdown and commission the machine.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the machine stop during a retrofit?

It depends on the scope. We aim to shorten on-site downtime by preparing the program and cabinet before the shutdown; the exact duration is written into the plan after the survey.
