ABB ACS580 — 7081 Control Panel Loss

Occurs when communication between the drive and the control panel (HMI) is lost. Usually due to the panel connection or cable.

Symptoms

  • 7081 and stop when panel reference is selected
  • Panel screen dark or frozen
  • Fault changes when panel is reseated

Probable Causes

  • Panel connector loose/oxidized
  • Damaged panel cable
  • Faulty panel
  • Strict panel-loss action setting (par. 49.05)

Checkpoints

  • Remove, clean and reseat the panel connector
  • Test the panel cable on another drive
  • Review the panel-loss action (par. 49.05)

Solution

If the panel is only used for monitoring, setting the panel-loss action to 'warning only' avoids unwanted stops.
